Researching in Caddo Parish, LA

After a few days with family in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, the 2012 Research Trip began with research in Caddo Parish, LA.  Our hope was to find information about William Steven Atlas, III and his family.  This was our first visit to the Caddo Parish Courthouse and Clerk of Court and boy, was it high tech.  Most of our research at courthouses before this point had us looking through actual indexes and deed books but the Caddo Parish Clerk has most of it records are digitized.

After a couple hours of searching, we came up with no new information on the William Steven Atlas, III line but did get some new information on Wesley Marshall, the adopted son of King Atlas, Jr. and son of Clora Evans Atlas.

Next, we headed to the Shreve Memorial Library. The Broadmoor branch of the library has a genealogy section which has been certified as a FamilySearch, Inc. Research Center.  This time, we found some information in City Directories and were able to verify addresses for William Atlas, III in 1939, 1940, 1941, and 1942.

Our night was wrapped up with great times with family and good eating at Cotton's Fried Chicken in Minden, LA
