Alex Dykes, Surgery Patient, January 1886
Located an excerpt from the book "Transactions of the Texas State Medical Association Volume 17" from Google Books that mentioned Alex (perhaps Alexander) Dykes, age 41 (born about 1845) from Providence, LA. He was the subject of examination for removal of a tumor by Dr. Edward Souchon of New Orleans. Alex had experienced more than one tumor growing from his jawbone. This particular tumor was cancerous and was treated at Charity Hospital in New Orleans on January 8, 1886.
It was interesting to read how the "patient was given a good drink of whiskey before getting on the operating table."
