NARA 138 - Application of Kissah Lee, October 21, 1867 - Certificate of Applicant, Lake Providence, LA, I or We, Kissiah Lee, colored, head of a family consisting of myself, of Lake Providence, Parish of Carroll and State of LA do hereby solemnly declare and upon my word of honor certify that I, or we, are in absolute need of food to prevent starvation and extreme want rendered so by the following circumstances.  Crippled and very old being 71 years old and unable to provide for myself.  Kissiah Lee (signed with an X).  *Next line illegible* Receipt: Received of 1st Leuit. Geo. W. Rollins RG AC Lands in the service of the United States of America 8 lbs of pork and 48 lbs of corn meal issued under authority of joint of Congress approved March 30, 1867 to prevent starvation.  In desperation.
