Affiliated Family Research - Russells in East Carroll Parish

After conducting research on the National Archives and Records Administration's M1905 series, we discovered information on an affiliated family to the Atlas family, the Russells of (East) Carroll Parish, LA.

Roll #42 - Caldwell and Carroll Parishes
Labor Contracts (Agreements with Freedmen) - Carroll Parish, LA
Unbound labor contracts (“agreements with freedmen”), 1864–68, are arranged alphabetically by parish.

Wilson, Agreement/Contract Dated April 15, 1866 - NARA 432 - #4 Ruben Russell, age 53, male, first class, no dependents or rate of wages listed, interest: 1/2 crop; #5 - Fannie Russell, age 34, female, second class, no dependents or rate of wages listed, interest: 1/2 crop; #6 Jerry Russell, age 17, male, second class, no dependents or rate of wages listed, interest: 1/2 crop - Grandfather, grandmother, and father of Charles Edward Russell, Sr.

Govy Hood Home - Owned by John W. Boice (probaby Boyce) - Freedman Employed Under Contract and Agreement by John W. Boice (probably Boyce), Agreement/Contract Dated January 1, 1868 - NARA 190 - #8 - Angeline Van Dike (should be Angeine Van Dyke), age 16, female, 2nd class - Wife of Jerry Russell; mother of Charles Edward Russell, Sr.

The information above confirms the hypothesis made in this document regarding the possible slaveowner of Ruben, Fannie Russell and Jerry Russell which could be Govy Hood or a family member of his.  Angeline (Van Dyke) Russell could have been enslaved by the Hood family as well.

These are the earliest records we have located on Ruben, Fannie, Jerry, and Angeline (Van Dyke) Russell.
